Season 2 of SYFY’s Superman prequel series Krypton is going even heavier on the DC Comics guest stars, as the new trailer features Lobo as well as Doomsday, and returning baddies Zod and Brainiac. The series wrapped up its first season by finding Zod (Colin Salmon) in control of the titular planet following some strategic moves while Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe) and his previously banished grandfather, Val-El (Ian McElhinney), worked to thwart the pending devastation brought on by the arrival of Brianiac (Blake Ritson). The result is a dramatically altered Krypton, one that could have long-ranging effects on the future of the Man of Steel himself, Kal-El.
Though it’s set decades before Kal was a glimmer in Jor-El’s eye, Superman’s legacy is the crux of the hard sci-fi series, as Adam Strange (Shaun Sipos) laid out in the first season, bringing along the Big Blue Boy Scout’s unraveling cape as proof. The result has been a prequel like no other, one where the future the series is destined to fulfill isn’t so certain after all. That gives Kryptonthe kind of high stakes not typically found in other shows or movies of its ilk, and as the series continues to move forward, its willingness to mess with the continuity of the iconic character makes it more fascinating to watch.
The second season of the series has already shared a brief teaser trailer that focused primarily on the destructive force known as Doomsday, who was unleashed in a post-credits sequence at the end of the season 1 finale. The bony Big Bad is seen again here, but he’s been more or less put on the back burner in favor of Zod’s “better tomorrow” speech and the arrival of the last Czarnian himself, Lobo. Check out Lobo in all his gun-toting glory in the trailer below:
The poster boy for ‘90s comics’ love of extreme excess makes his appearance near the end of the trailer, fittingly blasting someone with his laser rifle before making a proper introduction. It would seem as though actor Emmett J. Scanlan and Krypton’s writers and producers — including creator David S. Goyer — have opted to give the intergalactic killer an Irish accent, which, in addition to his overall look (which is very much in keeping with the spirit of the comics) will certainly lead to no shortage of opinions being bandied about the internet. Love it or hate it, DC’s biggest bastich is going to make a splash in Krypton season 2.
